What Would You Do?: A transgender woman is insulted by a man at a diner. This is a really great segment they did where a trans woman, played by a real trans woman, is insulted and ridiculed by a man (played by an actor, of course) while she serves him at a diner. You’d be surprised at how many people butted in to defend her.

So much faith in humanity restored.

Fucking great how they supported her.

I may need to watch this show more often.

I am literally crying this is making me so happy that there are people who will protect a perfect stranger especially religious people. I’m so used to hearing about people killing, hurting, misgendering people like me that I forget people like this exist.

This is ten times more wonderful than I expected it to be, because besides all those awesome people in the diner, I had watched Carmen on Rupaul’s Drag Race before she started transitioning and ahh she’s just so pretty and sweet and idk I’m really happy to see her I liked her a lot.

Wow! What the guy said about being shocked, I don’t think the actor was jjust shocked. If that were a real situation, anyone would be surprised, but it’s crazy that anyone would just keep going on about it. I never would be able to tell she was born male, which shouldn’t really matter, but if I was her I think I just wouldn’t tell them. Or at least I’d spit in their food.

I started off my day going to Mac with my friend Beth who was going to help me pick out the right make up in order to hide my beard shadow. at least that’s what i thought was supposed to happen. instead what happened with the rest of the day was fucking amazing. right away, the person who helped me asked one thing and that was “so are you planning on just doing this every once in a while or are you planning to transform?” i answered with “i’d eventually like to transform” and with out hesitation this lovely man rained positive affirmations down on me. he said “with you, let’s avoid the really heavy drag look and just highlight your natural beauty because honey, your skin is beautiful.” he told me a bunch of really good things about me that i hadn’t noticed before and then proceeded to tell me that not only will transforming be possible, but when i do it, it will be beautiful. i almost cried.

i’ll skip the boring technical stuff about make up and learning how to apply it myself, but i will say that he never once tried to sell me anything i didn’t need. some other customers were giving me shitty looks, but then he said “don’t worry about anyone else but you right now”. he showed me his make up for when he dressed up like a woman for Halloween and i was so impressed. not only was he passing, but motherdamn was he fine.

anyway, from there Beth took me to get my eyebrows did. i’ve never had them waxed before, but i knew what to expect as i’ve been waxed before. i’ve waxed my armpits and patches of leg/butt hair on a dare when my friends were prepping for prom back in highschool. this was a lot less painful and pretty easy. i wanted to keep it as natural as possible but still shapely enough to notice a difference. the lady waxing me kept saying how she was surprised at how well i was taking the pain. i showed her my tattoo covered arms and said “pain is never a problem” (so punx).

from there we went on a wig hunt. the first two shops we knew of were closed, but the one we ended up finding was SUPER helpful. i got there before Beth and her friend but with the day i’ve been having already i was less shy about checking things out. i started asking the apprehensive clerk about some of the prices on the wigs and after a while he started to warm up. when Beth finally showed up and he heard me enthusiastically say “hey girrrrrrrrrrrrrl”, he was all smiles and was way more relaxed about showing me the wigs. i found one that i absolutely loved. long black with bangs. simple.

anyways, at this point we have 30 minutes until we have to load in at the show i was supposed to be playing and we still hadn’t run through our set. i head over to the practice space, plug in my guitar, and we run through our songs really quickly. i told the guys to go on ahead because i had to finish putting on my make up for the night. everyone who i saw today that has been a part of my life for the past few years was REALLY positive with me. no one made me feel stupid or like i was crazy. we played our set and i sweated up a storm.

the only time i felt at all awkward around any of my friends was when Byron showed up. he didn’t do anything in particular to make me feel weird, but he was the one friend i’ve had for the better part of a decade and has seen me go through so much in my life as it was. we had a sort of unspoken falling out over the years and went from best friends to strangers. i couldn’t bring myself to talk to him at all the whole night and i felt really bad about that…

coming out to the people in my life is only truly hard when it is with people i’ve known since i was younger. i have no idea how i’m supposed to tell my traditional Filipino mother or my hyper-sensitive, judgmental little sister. i’m sure i’ll find a way to do it, but right now it’s still scary to just go about my daily life.

anyway, for my first outing, today was absolutely wonderful. i cried in the car on the way home… such a drama queen.
